How to Deal with Acne

Written by Acnezine on January 14th, 2012. Posted in Skin Care Articles

One of the biggest skin care issues is how to deal with acne. People of all ages get acne, most especially teenagers and adults. One reason teens get acne is because during puberty, more sebum is produced which clogs pores and leads to breakouts. Usually adult acne is related to hormonal issues. The good news is that there is lots of help out there for acne. There are many different types of acne, including blackheads, whiteheads, papules, pustules and even cysts. If acne is cystic and painful, it requires professional treatment from a dermatologist. The other types can be treated at home.

The first consideration is your age. If you are a teenager, a good skin care program would be practiced twice daily. It should consist of a cleanser, astringent toner, acne treatment and oil-free moisturizer.

Acne Whiteheads Treatment

There are different types of acne, including whiteheads. Both blackheads and whiteheads fall under the acne category of comedones. While blackheads are open comedones, whiteheads are closed. The white that you see is a combination of sebum, dirt, and dead skin cells. So what is the best acne whiteheads treatment? First, let’s talk about what not to do. The majority of dermatologists will tell you not to squeeze the whitehead, something many people do. This can leave scarring and push bacteria down further, making acne worse.

Cleanse at least twice daily with a cleanser made for acne prone skin. It should contain either benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. After cleansing, try applying a hot compress (a wash cloth dampened in water that is hot but not too hot to burn you will work) to the whitehead.
